Anisa Shaheed

Anisa is an Afghan journalist with 17 years of experience and the founder of GNR TV, a YouTube newsroom with about 55,800 subscribers that reaches roughly 1 million people a month across social platforms. She sets editorial direction and oversees production, social distribution and audience growth, and has conducted more than 430 exclusive interviews with political leaders, civil-society voices and subject-matter experts.

From 2009 to 2021, she reported for the Afghan news channel TOLOnews, covering corruption, terrorism, elections and the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on politics, peace and security. Her work has also been published by Independent Persian.

Reporters Without Borders named her among its global "information heroes" in 2020 for public-interest reporting during the pandemic. Two years later, she received the Knight International Journalism Award from the International Center for Journalists.

A fellow at Princeton University's Afghanistan Policy Lab from 2023 to 2024, she pairs reporting with capacity-building, training girls in journalism inside Afghanistan and supervising their work on an in-country research project. She is also collaborating with Stanford University on a project exploring resistance poetry and music in Afghanistan.
