Laura Clisánchez

Laura Clisánchez is a Venezuelan journalist and content writer specializing in human rights, environmental reporting, and data-driven journalism. She currently works as a freelance journalist for La Esquina TX, covering the Hispanic community in the United States, particularly in Houston, Texas.

She is co-founder of the Network of Journalists of the Venezuelan Amazon, a collective that supports independent journalism in southern Venezuela, one of the country’s most challenging regions for journalists. Through the network, she has produced investigative reports on environmental destruction and human rights abuses while using visual materials and infographics to strengthen digital storytelling.

As an investigative data journalist with Codehciu, Clisánchez compiled and analyzed data on forced disappearances linked to illegal mining in Bolívar State. Her work has received national recognition in Venezuela and won First Place in Collaborative Journalism at the 2024 XIV National Journalism Contest and First Place in Coverage at the 2022 XII National Journalism Contest. She also received a Special Mention for Human Rights and Community Service at the X National Investigative Journalism Contest.

Clisánchez said the month-long program left her hungry to keep learning and growing: “Some experiences change the way you see your career. AFPP 2026 challenged my perspective, reminded me to think bigger.”
